The ASA (Advertising Standard Agency) upheld complaints against Dell for their “dodgy” marketing over the summer. Interesting read for UK consumers. http://www.asa.org.uk/asa/adjudications/Public/TF_ADJ_42026.htm The whole issue of prices being shown as VAT excluded and using the unclear “from” descriptions approach was found to be misleading to the general public. ASA ruling quote:
We told Dell to ensure that greater care was taken in future to avoid errors that could lead to consumer disappointment. We also told them to ensure that VAT-inclusive and VAT-exclusive prices were quoted with equal prominence in ads that targeted a general readership.
